The Institute of Native American Studies (INAS) at the University of Georgia is one of the leading programs in indigenous studies in the country and the premier program in the American South. We are a vibrant community of two dozen scholars, including six Native faculty, in addition to our graduate and undergraduate students. Each year, we bring prominent figures in Native American and indigenous studies, representing a wide variety of endeavors, to campus to speak. INAS supports faculty and graduate student research, and we partner with tribal nations and other community organizations on a variety of research and service projects. INAS offers both an undergraduate and a graduate certificate in Native American Studies. In addition, it has four specialized tracks in historic preservation, landscape architecture, public health, and Indigenous Latin America. UGA also has outstanding programs in law, environmental design, ecology, and forestry & natural resources, among many other areas of interest to Native students and scholars of Native America. Both the CED and INAS are recognized as top programs in the United States. We value connections to the ecology and cultures of our regions and seek to enhance and preserve healthy and resilient communities through thoughtful preservation, planning, design and management. The Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture (MLA) at the University of Georgia’s College of Environment and Design provides the foundational knowledge, practical skills and design expertise needed to engage in both public service and private practice of landscape architecture. Students in our program develop the knowledge, skills and values necessary create design solutions for communities that enhance human health, environmental quality and economic value. In addition, students have the opportunity to focus and define their unique position within the profession through scholarly discovery and extracurricular experiences. The Master of Historic Preservation (MHP) program prepares students for broad-based careers in the conservation and management of historic resources in both the built and natural environments. The two-year MHP degree is structured to develop versatile, competent, and highly motivated professionals who can perceive preservation opportunities in the broadest sense and who can develop strategies ensuring the protection and use of cultural resources as a part of the fabric of urban and rural environments. An accelerated MHP degree, a joint Juris Doctor and MHP, and a Historic Preservation certificate are also available.
