N Scott Momaday, Pulitzer-winning Native American novelist, dies aged 89

N Scott Momaday was a Kiowa poet, educator, and folklorist whose writing connected and inspired audiences. He published more than a dozen books, but his debut novel "House Made of Dawn" is noted as the starting point for contemporary Native American literature.

“His Kiowa heritage was deeply meaningful to him and he devoted much of his life to celebrating and preserving Native American culture, especially the oral tradition,” said Jennifer Civiletto, his editor.
